Where Instinct Meets Joy
A simple reminder that purpose doesn’t have to be complicated

Micah is a long-haired Dachshund who takes her work seriously. Every time she and her owner, Sandy, head out for a walk, Micah goes straight to work. She patrols every culvert along the route, checking each one as if her little patch of the world depends on it.
Her enthusiasm is something to behold. If a ditch is blocked and she can’t get inside to investigate, the disappointment on her face is unmistakable. But when the way is clear? She dives in with purpose, nose down, tail up, entirely in her element.
This isn’t random curiosity. It’s instinct. Dachshunds were bred hundreds of years ago to track and flush animals from underground. That long, low, determined build was designed to go where other dogs couldn’t. Burrows, tunnels, ditches, culverts… all of it calls to them.
Watching Micah is like watching history in motion. She is happiest when she’s doing what she was made for.
Her sister, Reba, has the same spark. They were both entered in Earthdog trials years ago, but these days, their daily walks serve the same purpose: putting instinct into motion, patrol into joy.
