Walking the Same Path Twice
Why are no two steps ever the same
A familiar road, yet never quite the same. Each step forward brings subtle change-photo by Bonnie S. Heisse.
I walk the same path to the river almost every day. Same route, same distance, same turns. Yet every day feels different.
Some mornings, the woods are quiet. Even the birds seem to hold their songs. Other days, the world comes alive with a symphony of sound and motion—squirrels darting, deer moving through the brush, birds calling across the water.
This unpredictability is part of the wonder. What is God going to show me today?
One morning, the air was heavy and still. I didn’t expect much beyond the sunrise, which, as always, was worth the walk. But when I turned to head home, I froze. Just a few feet away, a fawn stood.
We startled each other. I reached for my pocket to take a photo, but she was quicker than I was with my camera. In a flash, she disappeared into the woods.
No picture, no proof—but the memory is mine to keep. And it left me awed by the beauty and grace of one so young.
It reminded me that even when you think you’re walking the same path, you’re not. The physical route may stay the same, but countless variables are always at play—your mood, your perspective, your experiences since the last time you passed that way.
Each step is new. Each walk is unique. And if you’re paying attention, even the tiniest change can make all the difference.
Progress is often subtle, but it’s present. And the journey itself is worth it.
Where are you on your path?
