I Was Looking for One Article
Sometimes we don’t realize what God has been building until we stop long enough to look behind us.
A Path of Faithfulness
This morning, I opened my writing files looking for one unfinished article.
I knew I had started it.
I just couldn’t remember where I’d put it.
As I searched, I began scrolling through the titles.
Some had been published.
Some had been submitted to writing contests.
Some were still waiting for the right opportunity.
Others I had completely forgotten about.
The farther I scrolled, the more I realized I wasn’t just looking at a list of articles.
I was looking at the evidence of more than a year of faithfulness.
I hadn’t set out to build a library.
I had simply shown up each day to write the next article.
One article became another.
Then another.
Without realizing it, one day at a time, God was building something much larger.
It reminded me of God’s encouragement in Zechariah 4:10 not to despise small beginnings.
Most days don’t feel like you’re building something significant.
One prayer doesn’t seem like much.
One verse of Scripture.
One act of kindness.
One difficult conversation.
One article.
By themselves, they can seem almost insignificant.
But God often works through what appears small.
Faithfulness has a way of accumulating long before we recognize what it has become.
Looking through those old titles reminded me that God’s work is often easier to see in the rearview mirror than in the moment.
The articles weren’t the point.
They were evidence.
Evidence that small acts of obedience, repeated day after day, eventually become something much larger than we imagined.
Maybe that’s true in your life too.
Perhaps there’s something you’ve been faithfully doing that feels ordinary.
A habit.
A prayer.
A quiet act of service.
Don’t despise the small beginnings.
You may not yet see what God is building.
But one day you may look back and discover that while you thought you were simply being faithful, God was quietly building something far greater than you ever imagined.
